From field failures to operator trust.  The story behind IMPACT’s Presurizer Pump.

In the oilfield, equipment doesn’t just need to work, it needs to last. And for too long, pressurizer pumps on coiled tubing and acidizing units were falling short. At IMPACT, we didn’t want to release just another 5×6 pump. We wanted to fix what was broken.

Listening before engineering

The story of the Silverback 5×6 Pressurizer Pump didn’t start on a CAD screen. It started in the field, alongside maintenance supervisors, reliability engineers, and coil tubing operators who were tired of short-lived seals, shaft failures, and complicated installations.

Over the course of a year-long development phase, our engineering team gathered field-level intelligence to answer one critical question:

What’s really costing operators time and money in pressurizer systems?

The answer wasn’t just one thing, it was many:

  • Mechanical seals that failed mid-job
  • Galling and shaft seizure during rebuilds
  • Tedious hydraulic motor installs with tight tolerances
  • Rebuild cycles that were too short and too frequent

Purpose-driven design

Armed with field feedback and failure reports, we went to work. Every component of the Silverback 5×6 was reimagined not just for performance on paper, but for real-world results.

Here’s what we focused on improving:

  • Seal Reliability: We eliminated mechanical seals and moved to a dynamic expeller-based system. It creates an air pocket during operation, meaning no leaks while running and no seal blowouts mid-job.
  • Installation Simplicity: With an internal flexible coupling, motor installs are faster and alignment stress is drastically reduced, cutting install time and common failure points.
  • Material Strength: We chose duplex stainless steel for the impeller and expeller, and a high-strength shaft designed to optimize and extend life when handling abrasive and corrosive fluids.
  • Longevity: By addressing the root causes of seal failure, coupling breakdown, and alignment issues, we significantly extended the time between rebuilds.

Tested where it matters

Design means nothing without validation. That’s why we field-tested the Silverback 5×6 in active coiled tubing and acidizing fleets across North America.

The result? Entire CT fleets have now converted to the Silverback.

“We changed out our entire fleet to run the Silverback 5×6. It’s eliminated the seal issues we used to see, and our maintenance intervals have improved significantly.”
— Senior Reliability Engineer, U.S. Pressure Pumping Company

A pump with a purpose

The Silverback 5×6 isn’t just a redesign. It’s a response to real frustrations, real downtime, and real field challenges.

It’s the kind of solution you get when you and have a team that thrives on solving problems through innovation, testing, and continuous improvement. And it’s the kind of product IMPACT is proud to stand behind.Ready to see what it can do for your fleet?
